Ali Akbar Mousavi Khomeini is a notable Iranian human rights activist and politician. He was an active member of the student organization Tahkim Vahdat before he was elected as a member of parliament in the 6th Parliament of Iran. While serving in the parliament, he made significant attempts to defend the rights of political prisoners during the 1990s. In the decade after his release from prison, he left Iran for the United States where he continues his work and activism for human rights.
