In this article, professor of international human rights law at Oxford University and Tavaana faculty member Nazila Ghanea casts a critical eye on the Rouhani government’s recently released Citizens' Rights Charter. Ghanea also outlines what she considers to be the Charter’s deficiencies, citing, for example, the document’s silence on Baha’ism on the rights of citizens of that faith. She also finds sections of the Charter to be in opposition with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and argues that the Charter’s language regarding the preservation of historical monuments neglects to include those belonging to minority faiths.
