Sociology of Law

This Tavaana webinar series, taught by Majid Mohammadi, takes an in-depth look at the most fundamental concepts of legal sociology and legal institutions. Dr. Mohammadi explores gaps in the Iranian judicial system and explains how to address them. He explains institutions such as the rule of law and trial by jury, which are absent in the Iranian judicial system and Iranian society, as well as elements of the Iranian legal system which do not meet international standards, including sentencing and imprisonment. Among other topics, these webinars examine the treatment of lawyers, the legal profession, accused and convicted prisoners, and the lack of jury trials as well as other shortcomings in the legal and judicial system in Iran, such as the lack of an independent judiciary.
