Susannah Vila teaches Tavaana's "Digital Strategies for Public Engagement" webinar series. She is co-founder of The Engine Room, an online initiative that seeks to improve coordination between technology expertise and advocacy initiatives. Previously in her role at the Alliance for Youth Movements, Ms. Vila worked to identify and share best practices in the use of new media for social change among advocates from over 30 countries. She also investigated and documented lessons learned in digital advocacy and identified participants for global skill sharing summits.
Ms. Vila has consulted on digital communications strategy for various training and technology organizations, and has provided expertise on the nexus of digital media and social change for media outlets such as the New York Times, NPR and CNN. She is a blogger for Mashable, The Huffington Post, PBS MediaShift and Global Voices Online, as well as the Engine Room. She earned her master’s degree from Columbia University and her bachelor’s degree from New York University in political science.
